Updated Oct 26, 2026 · Specs checked against maker and retailer listings in Oct 2026
How we research: We haven’t lab-tested these chairs. Every size, weight and rating comes from the maker’s page or the retailer listing, linked in Sources. Our founder spends a lot of weekends on youth soccer and lacrosse sidelines with his kids, and that shapes what we look for, but the specs below are the makers’ own. We don’t publish star ratings or review counts.
Soccer and lacrosse fields usually don’t have bleachers. You bring your own seat, carry it across a parking lot and two fields, set it up on grass that may be wet, and sit there through a game or a full tournament day. That’s why “soccer mom chair” is its own search: moms, dads and grandparents want a sideline chair that’s easy to carry, comfortable for hours, steady on grass and, in August, gives some shade.
We compared seven real chairs on what matters on a sideline: seat height (how easy it is to get up), weight limit, carry weight, shade, and packed size. If your kid plays on a field with bleachers, a bleacher seat with a back may suit you better.

Best Sideline Chair Overall: Kijaro Dual Lock Chair
Our take: It locks open and locks closed, has a 20” seat height, a side organizer and two cup holders, rated 300 lb.
Kijaro calls the Dual Lock its “sideline hero,” and the specs back the name. It locks open, so the seat doesn’t sag or fold on you, and it locks closed, so it doesn’t flop open while you carry it. The seat sits 20” high, 22” wide and 16” deep, and it’s rated 300 lb at 9.5 lb. A side organizer has mesh and zipper pockets for keys and phone, there are two mesh cup holders, a mesh back for hot days, and the fabric is diamond ripstop polyester on a steel frame.
Good to know: Kijaro also sells a Dual Lock with Cooler version that holds 6 cans and weighs 9.6 lb, which is handy on a tournament day.
Not for: anyone who needs shade built in. Pair it with a clip-on umbrella from our gifts for sports parents guide.
Best Soccer Mom Chair With Shade: Sport-Brella Recliner Chair
Our take: Three recline positions, a removable footrest and a swiveling UPF 50+ umbrella, rated 250 lb.
For a hot summer tournament with no tree on the sideline, this is the soccer mom chair we’d pick. It has a three-position recline, a removable footrest and a swiveling personal umbrella with a UPF 50+ silver underside that you can angle as the sun moves. The seat measures 23” wide × 20.5” deep × 19.5” high, the back is 23” tall, and it’s rated 250 lb. There’s an insulated pocket for drinks, a cup holder, a bottle opener and a carry bag.
Good to know: the open canopy is about 38” × 39” at its widest, so check whether your league lets parents put umbrellas up on the sideline.
Not for: anyone over 250 lb, or anyone carrying their gear a long way without a wagon.
Best Rocking Sideline Chair: GCI Freestyle Rocker
Our take: Spring-action rocking on grass, padded armrests, rated 250 lb.
GCI’s Freestyle Rocker uses Spring-Action Rocking that GCI says works on grass, sand and pavement, so you can rock on a soccer field without sinking in. It opens to 24.4” W × 25” D × 34.8” H, folds to 5.5” wide, and is rated 250 lb, with a mesh back, padded armrests, a beverage holder and a powder-coated steel frame. A retailer listing gives a 20” seat height. GCI backs it with a 3-year warranty.
Good to know: GCI’s spec table lists 11.8 lb, and another version of the page says 12.1 lb, so plan on about 12 lb to carry.
Not for: anyone who wants the lightest chair.
Best Laid-Back Rocker: GCI Kickback Rocker
Our take: A lower, wider rocker at 32.5” wide with a phone pocket, rated 250 lb.
The Kickback is GCI’s mid-size rocker. GCI says it sits lower than standard chairs with a laid-back angle, so it’s for relaxing, not perching. It’s 32.5” wide, 27.2” deep and 31.7” tall open, rated 250 lb, and weighs 10.6 lb. It has the same spring-action rocking, a beverage holder in the armrest, a phone pocket in the seat and a shoulder strap built into the frame. It folds to 5.9” × 7.9” × 39”, with a 3-year warranty.
Good to know: the low seat is comfortable for a long game but harder to get out of. Grandparents may prefer the Freestyle or the Kijaro.
Not for: anyone who has trouble standing up from a low seat.
Best for Big and Tall: ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Chair
Our take: A 24” seat rated 800 lb, with armrest pockets and a backpack-strap bag.
The King Kong is built big: a 24” wide, 20” deep seat at 19” high, a 22” tall backrest, and a 800 lb rating, on a powder-coated steel frame with quilted 600D polyester. It has two mesh cup holders, a pocket on each armrest and a mesh pocket on the back, and it packs into a 40” × 8” × 9” carry bag with backpack straps.
Good to know: it weighs 13 lb, the heaviest chair here. The backpack straps help on the walk in. For more big and tall seats, see our wide and plus-size guide.
Not for: anyone who wants a light chair.
Best Packable Chair: CLIQ Chair
Our take: 3.65 lb and folds to 3.4” × 3.4” × 13”, rated 300 lb.
The CLIQ folds into a 3.4” × 3.4” × 13” bundle, about the size of a water bottle, and weighs 3.65 lb, with an anodized aluminum frame and a 300 lb rating on CLIQ’s spec page. It opens to 24” × 24” × 26”. If you’re also carrying a younger sibling, a cooler and a ball bag, this is the chair that fits.
Good to know: it sits about 10” off the ground, so it’s low. CLIQ’s newer ClassiQ 1.0 page gives different numbers (350 lb in the text, 400 lb in its table), so we use the more conservative 300 lb.
Not for: grandparents or anyone who has trouble getting up from a low seat.
Best for Sitting on the Grass: Crazy Creek Original Chair
Our take: 23–25 oz, no legs, with a strap-adjusted back.
Some parents just want to sit on the grass with something to lean on. The Crazy Creek folds flat, weighs 23–25 oz, has a 15.5” seat with closed-cell foam, fiberglass stays in the back, and side straps that adjust from upright to reclined. It’s rated 250 lb.
Good to know: it also works as a seat back on a gym bleacher, so one seat covers soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter.
Not for: anyone who wants to sit off the ground, or wet grass with nothing underneath.
Best Wagon for Sports: Mac Sports Classic Wagon
Our take: A steel-frame 600D wagon rated 300 lb, to haul the chairs and cooler in one trip.
Once you add a chair, a cooler, a ball bag and a younger sibling’s snacks, a wagon for sports is what keeps it to one trip from the car. The Mac Sports Classic Wagon is a steel-frame, 600D wagon rated 300 lb that opens to 35” × 20” × 23”. Mac Sports says it isn’t for carrying children. We cover it with other sideline gear in our gifts for sports parents guide and our sports parent must-haves list.
Soccer and Lacrosse Sidelines
- Seat height decides who can use it. A 19–20” seat (Kijaro, Freestyle, King Kong) is easier to get out of than a 10” seat (CLIQ) or a ground chair. If grandparents come to games, buy at least one tall chair.
- Grass is soft. Rockers and wide feet are steadier than thin legs on wet turf. GCI says its spring-action rockers work on grass.
- Check sideline rules. Some leagues ask parents to sit on one side of the field or behind a spectator line, and some fields limit umbrellas. Ask your coach before you buy a big shade chair.
- Tournament days are long. Cup holders, a side pocket and a cooler pocket matter more over six hours than over one game.
- Wind and rain. A chair that locks closed (Kijaro) won’t flop open in the wind as you carry it back to the car.
How to Choose a Sideline Chair
1. Seat height. Around 20” if standing up is hard; low chairs are fine for younger parents who want to lounge.
2. Weight limit. Ratings here run from 250 lb to 800 lb (King Kong). Leave some margin.
3. Carry weight and packed size. From 23 oz (Crazy Creek) and 3.65 lb (CLIQ) up to 13 lb (King Kong). The heavier chairs are more comfortable but harder to carry across three fields.
4. Shade. Only the Sport-Brella Recliner has shade built in. For any other chair, a clip-on umbrella is the add-on.
5. Extras. Cup holders, a side organizer, a phone pocket or a cooler. Pick the ones you’ll use every weekend.
