MLB Bag Policy & Seat Cushion Rules by Ballpark (2026)

Checked Oct 2026 against official team and stadium pages · All 30 teams

There is no single MLB bag rule. MLB sets a ceiling of one soft-sided bag up to 16″ × 16″ × 8″, and many ballparks go stricter with clear-bag or small-bag rules. Seat cushions are even less consistent: most team pages never mention them. The table below shows what each official team page actually says, so you can pack the right bag and seat before you drive to the park.

What to Bring to MLB Games

• Seat with a back (1 team: Colorado Rockies): our best stadium seats for bleachers guide lists the width, arms and pockets for each pick. Compare them with the size limit in your row.
• Cushions only (4 teams: Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins, Athletics, and Arizona Diamondbacks): see our stadium seat cushions guide, then check your row for size and pocket rules.
• Seats or cushions banned (3 teams): leave them at home.
• Bags: the most common rule here is one bag up to 16″ × 16″ × 8″ (11 of 30). Our best clear stadium bags guide compares bags against that size.
• Day games and doubleheaders: a soft cushion with no metal frame is the item most likely to get through the gate where it's allowed. Our bleacher seat cushions guide lists foam picks with no pockets.
• Cold games: 1 of 30 pages here ban pockets on seats or cushions. Before you buy from our heated stadium seats guide, check how the battery is carried against your row.

FAQ

What is the MLB bag policy for 2026? MLB caps bags at one soft-sided bag no larger than 16″ × 16″ × 8″, as the Yankees, Blue Jays and Astros pages state. Each team can be stricter, and many are: several ballparks allow only clear bags or small clutches. Check your team’s row below.

Can you bring a seat cushion to an MLB game? At most ballparks, nothing on the team page forbids it, but most pages don’t mention cushions at all. The table shows which teams clearly allow them, which ban portable seats, and which don’t say. A plain, soft cushion with no metal frame or pockets is the safest choice.

Are stadium seats with backs allowed at MLB games? 1 of 30 teams publishes a rule that allows a seat or chair back (Colorado Rockies). Cushions only: 4 (Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins, Athletics, and Arizona Diamondbacks). Seats or cushions banned: 3 (Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Diego Padres). Not stated: 22. Those pages only list some banned types or don't mention seats.

What size stadium seat is allowed at MLB ballparks? Very few official pages give a size. Only Arizona Diamondbacks (Cushions 18″ wide max) states a limit; the other 29 don't. A cushion about the width of one seat (16″ or less) with no frame is the safest choice.

Are armrests allowed on MLB stadium seats? None of the 30 official pages we cite mention armrests. Ask guest services before you bring a seat with arms.
